Juan Borona, Director, Producer, Choreographer

Juan Borona began his dance career in Madrid with the Victor Ullate Ballet Company and the Carmen Roche Dance Co. A resident of New York, he choreographs and teaches all over the US, Spain, Mexico and Italy.

Mr Borona has been working with different kinds of artists to create highly visual theater productions. This was where he came up with the idea to create The Crepus Project.

Favorite collaborations include those with director Cris Buchner and fashion designer Zaldy, where in TraumNovela, a dance musical, was born. TraumNovela had successful runs in Dallas (Hub Theater), New York (Barrow st.Theater) and Barcelona. Juan's visionary ideas have been part of worldwide projects like the last Michael Jackson tour: This Is It.

He has a long experience directing and choreographing Off-Broadway shows ( TraumNovela, Female Heart, The Territory, Girliemagic) ,regional theater shows (A Chrorus Line, Cabaret, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Dreamgirls, Company), short films, and special events in remarkable locations such as The Manhattan Center, The Rainbow Room (Rockefeller Center), City Center and Cipriani among others.

Max Losk, Director, Producer

Max Losk is a New York City based producer and art director. He grew up in a small rustic town on the Russian tundra. From an early age, Max was deeply influenced by observing snow – the white powder is nature’s #1 visual effect. After getting bored with his Mechanical Engineering School in Siberia, he left for the Big Apple to study graphic design and cinematic effects at the School of Visual Arts. His professors steeped him in the diverse rich history of film and media as well as the latest tricks to keep on the edge.

Max now works for IEEE - global organization that strives to advance technology for the benefit of humanity, his everyday projects involve graphic design, motion graphics, web design, branding, product placement and social media marketing. Additionally, Max produces and edits commercials for TV and online distribution.

Mr Losk previously produced a full length music video “New York City Boy.” Set to the soundtrack of the hit song New York City Boy by the Pet Shop Boys, the original footage told the story of a city that gives people of every gender, race, and sexual orientation the chance to succeed. It is an opportunity that people do not enjoy everywhere in the world.

Bettina Sheppard, Music Composer

Bettina Sheppard has composed and arranged music for numerous classical, film, theatre, and dance pieces. She is a classically trained singer and pianist, and holds graduate degrees summa cum laude from University of Virginia and CUNY Hunter, with postgraduate work at Juilliard. She has studied with eminent composers Christopher Theofanidis, Conrad Cummings, and Shafer Mahoney. Some works include: Emily Dickinson poems, performed in Lincoln Center’s Alice Tully Hall; Edna St. Vincent Millay poetry, commissioned for the American Cathedral in Paris; stage productions including a dance piece, Hell, City Center, with choreographer Juan Borona; TraumNovela, Barrow Street Theatre and Barcelona; 365 Days/365 Plays by Suzan-Lori Parks, The Public Theater; The Picture of Dorian Grey; Kindly Direct Me To Hell: An Evening With Dorothy Parker. Current projects include an opera based on Welsh tales, and the opera Stillwaters with librettist Wallace Wilhoit Jr., which was originally developed at The Juilliard School under the guidance of composer, Conrad Cummings. Solus, her CD of original material was released in 2006 under her Welsh name, Brythonwen. As a performer, she has appeared in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall, Broadway and Off Broadway theatres, with television credits includingAll My Children and One Life to Live. She currently records for film, television, and radio. Ms. Sheppard created the swing jazz trio, Satin Dolls, who performed her original material and jazz arrangements in Radio City Music Hall, The Rainbow Room, and Trump Plaza, among others, and often appeared with big bands including the New York Pops. She also created the international vocal group, Bridges Vocal Ensemble, a cross-cultural project devoted to the performance of her original choral repertoire. Bridges Vocal Ensemble appeared in Carnegie Hall in Spring 2010.Ms. Sheppard is an active member of The Sound and Music Institute, an innovative group of multicultural musicians who are exploring the effects of both archaic and modern music in today’s society. Collaborators include Grammy Award winner David Darling, Don Campbell, John Beaulieu, Silvia Nakkach, Layne Redmond, and Pat Moffit Cook. She is currently a faculty member of City University of New York and Broadway Dance Center, and is the author of The Everything Singing Book.

Nellee Dii, Make up Artist

Mr.Dii has often quoted himself as being "a jack of all trades... and a master of non of them"...Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York to a Colombian single parent, Nellee (birth name, Nelson Moreno) was an only child. Shy, yet playful, with a knack for walking in his mother's white pumps (often sans clothing)!During & after surviving High School, Nellee found where he belonged, among the misfits of St.Marks & the raging queers of Christopher.St! Soon, Nellee became obsessed with Rock&Roll, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and just how shocking mascara & lipgloss can be...!Now, Nellee can be found performing at downtown cabarets, perhaps spinning records at seedy functions, painting faces and coiffing hair for the camera... but, you certainly can always find Nellee having a good time...!"Don't dream it, BE IT!"/Tim Curry.

Alexander Chan, Casting Director/Production assistance

Since he was a young child, Alex was always fascinated with the arts. Whether it was watching his aunt perform on stage at the Chinese opera, or religiously going to museums for updated exhibits there is always an effort to expose himself to new ideas and thoughts. After getting his Bachelors in International Business and working for many multinational corporations, Alex decided to get into the arts himself. Specifically the culinary arts, where after attending the Le Cordon Bleu in Las Vegas, he is now a pastry chef for a large corporate restaurant, Grand Luxe Cafe in Garden City. He is always looking for new projects to participate in and is quite happy working with TraumNovela as their Casting Director, given his meticulous and professional organizational skills.

My name is Alexandra Matthews, I work as a contemporary artist/Painter.I was Born in America, Hartford,Connecticut Upstate, in 1965...but I live in sweden and have done since 1969 , I am half English....with some roots in AMerica..(swedish Mother/English Father).I went to the University College of Fine & Contemporary Arts and Design, Stockholm, Sweden,-87-94, in painting and sculpture.Have been working mostly in the painting section of art, but also installations ,scripts... objects and film....and open to most creative ideas.My field is though Painting and this is where i mostly explode my works....into mind scapes...fields of "metafysical" worlds....endless ways there are!!;-)I never really had the disciplined patience required for the classical sculpture techniques, and processes... In painting, I get the direct contact I want.
For me painting is narrative, a kind of geographical fantasy scenario. Sometimes I write, sometimes I paint. In the story, I try to grasp something that I do not really know what it is ...and it never matters...it becomes vital and sublime anyways....... embedded memories future .....etc... I feel like a reflector....a surfer... As an artist I have the task of researching my existence, what does it mean to be a human ...or me.. that slowly emerges - seven years of thinking and writing may explode in a series of images...take it further, its a play owith reality and imaginary inner scapes as material.
Inspiration I get from life, my everyday life,people, conversations, good music in all genres, I also get inspiration by watching movies and going to the library where I borrowed books on biology and astronomy to find out how a star is born and dies.And also sneak into the worlds of the old masters.
By that I build,create,and try to attract the curiosity of others....to see beyond reality..... The playfullness and open tickeling mind, must not be forgotten as an adult. I want to give the people who see my pictures an opportunity to put themself into a new state, to fall into another world....and into their own...

The challenge is to find oneself and to dare to be yourself faithful. Not allow yourselfe to be stressed by what is happening around you, of trends, or that someone has done something similar or slightly better. It took many years before I came this far, there has been an uncertain groping. Now I dare to stand up for what I do....and do what i wish...

-The metaphysical in the image is important - state of reality is dissolved - which gives room for something else,to step forward and grow itself...into a form,colour or scape...beeing.

- What really affects me? - All ........ Landscape - the morbid beauty of the landscape. Maybe not the red cottage, but the worn down old pulp mill ...or factory.... Moving to northern Sweden, was to be unleashed in a ferociously....a rough new world from nature....that captured me....and took me more steps into my artistic personality further,

When I paint old industries, they may look like weathered temple - they remind us of another time. The nature around buildings that are left are poisoned, exploited, ravaged,left emty, - still beautiful. It has magical charisma ............ you can fantasize that the old industrial buildings is something else, and discerns that nature once again takes over, resuming its seat by the inevitable breakdown. Organisms will again take over in other forms...new survival kits;-)

I do not let technology control when I paint, it must adapt. If I want to do something, so it does not matter if there is a new technology that I've seen someone else use. I do it anyway, in my own way...like any other artist any filed, lets her be inspired...!

Cheng-Huai Chuang - Fashion Designer (USA/ TAIWAN)

Cheng-Huai Chuang got his start in design as a young boy by dressing mannequins at his parents’ clothing store in Taipei, Taiwan. In high school, he designed and starred in his own fashion show, “The Little Boy’s Girl” at the Nan-Hai Art Gallery, part of National Taipei University. This show led to an invitation to design costumes for an experimental theater production, “Yes, but not Only” by the Van Body Theater (formerly, Chibody Theater Troupe). He was also invited to participate in the Taipei Taiwan Art Festival after graduating high school.

In 2006, at the age of 18, Cheng came to New York City to attend Parsons School of Fashion Design. Cheng is currently a design intern for emerging Philippine designer Marc Rancy and launched his first collection for Fall/Winter 2010 in February 2010 during New York Fashion Week. Recently, he designed costumes for the musical "You are a Good Man, Charlie Brown" and designed gowns for the Miss New York Pageant and National Sweetheart Pageant of Miss Manhattan 2009 and Miss Jubilee 2010, Inga Schlingmann. He is also the exclusive designer for drag queen Sherry Vine and is currently producing a t-shirt line featuring Sherry and other drag queens called Drag Tease.

Lannette Alvarez - Performer/ Visual Artist (USA)

Lannette D. Álvarez, a performing, visual and teaching artist, is a New York City Chelsea native of Puerto Rican heritage. She holds a Bachelors of Arts in Dance and Studio Art from City University of New York, Hunter College. Ms. Álvarez combines her passions for the visual arts with the performing arts and her admiration of "people watching". Her artistic style encompasses rich fluid lines and colors which emit serene emotions from the subject.

Lannette Alvarez currently enjoys serving her community as a teaching artist in several schools and studios in New York City while she continues to perform and practice her crafts.
Visual Fine Artist. As a studio art student Ms. Álvarez trained in acrylic painitng, drawing, etching for print making, and clay work. She has had her artwork displayed throughout the CUNY campus and has been photographed painting for the school website. She presented her first gallery Solo Exhibition LA Arte Spring 2010 at Perry Studios in Harlem, NYC. The art, which was very well recieved, included an almost complete collection of her paintings, drawings, sketches and etches for print making.

Performing Artist. Ms. Álvarez began her dance training at Ballet Hispanico's School of Dance as a high school senior intern and went on to train at other prestigious institutions including American Ballet Theater`s Collegiate Program under the direction of Nancy Raffa where she danced an excerpt of Raymonda by Marius Petipa set by Katie Lydon, Complexions Contemporary Ballet's Choreography Workshop at Baryshnikov’s 37 Arts directed by Dwight Rhoden and Desdmond Richardson, as a scholarship recipient for Jacob’s Pillow Contemporary Traditions Program in Beckett Massachusetts directed by Milton Myers, on scholarship at Dance Theatre of Harlem's School under Endalyn Taylor, The Ailey School's Professional Division directed by Denise Jefferson, and Taller Flamenco studying with Felipe Matos and Lordes Recio in Seville, Spain. Orélie White - Singer (Canada)

Orélie White was born in Montréal, Canada. Meeke Mutter - Painter (NTH) (USA)

“When it was impossible to find a dance poster of her liking, she came to the decision to create her own and so began Meeke’s dancers.”

Meeke Mutter is an artist from The Netherlands. She is a painter of abstract figurative dancers: Meeke’s dancers. She works in acrylic and watercolor. She started with abstract painting in 1998. Her artwork is exhibited frequently and considered as stunning and beautiful. To her it is all about the beauty of dance and abstract calligraphy.

Meeke is also a dancer. She began her ballet training at the age of eight and has often performed. Later she switched to competitive track and field and ran 100/200 meters. She recently finished a 3-year Professional Training Program at Dance New Amsterdam in NYC with one year on scholarship. Since January 2010 she is studying ballet at Ballet Arts with Kirill Matveev, Kenny Larson and contemporary with Nina Buisson.

Meeke has received her masters from the Free University in Amsterdam in Culture, Organization and Management (Social Sciences). She also completed studies in senior communication consultancy. She has worked as a communication consultant for HVR Public Relations in The Hague.

Her performance experience includes working with modern companies/choreographers Neil Ieremia, Ex Nunc Ex Nunc, Pieter de Ruiter, Anne Rene Petrarca, Hanna Samson. Meeke has also choreographed productions for live jazz musicians in The Netherlands.

Mary Madsen is a small town gal from Maribel, WI. She holds a BFA in dance from the University of WI-Milwaukee in 2003. Since graduating, she has been living and working as a dancer, choreographer and Pilates instructor in New York City. Mary has been dancing with Regina Nejman and Company for 5 seasons, and also currently dances for John J Zullo Dance. Other performing credits include Simone Ferro and Friends II as a Solo Guest artist, (Milwaukee '09), Fusion Danceworks, David Appel Dance, Rebollar Dance Theater, and Foothold dance. In 2005 Mary co-founded the Indie rock band performance group Jigsaw Soul, which she continues to work with as movement director, performer, and collaboration curator. Early in 2008 she appeared as a featured dancer in their music video Cockroach Hotel. Other choreography credits include the production of ‘You Can’t Take it With You’ at the University of Rochester, NY in 2008, and ‘Open the Dark Door’ in the New York Musical Theater Festival (2009). Mary is truly inspired by the momentum of everyday life on the city streets and challenges you to take a moment to 'be still' every now and then.

There was a stretch of time where I didn't write as much as I wanted, then I met someone and she opened the flood gates to everything I've been writing lately. She is my muse.

I am a father of two beautiful girls. My main focus in life is making them happy and providing for them, and making myself happy.

Photography is a serious hobby of mine. It allows me to give expression to the beauty and diversities around me. I look for that ‘unique’ perspective. Buildings, patterns, flowers and landscapes press me to take them in new focus. I allow myself to appreciate and enjoy the full panorama before studying its’ parts, angles, and lighting. I attempt to create an image that allows the viewer to enjoy the obvious but prompts him to look beyond and create his own story.

Lauren Curtis was graduated with a BFA from Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University, in 1988. She enjoys working in a variety of media, including oils, acrylics, pen & ink, watercolor and photography. The artist is happiest when creating pieces that represent her love of nature, wildlife, travel and spiritual subject matter. The symbology and mythology of ancient cultures such as Egyptian, Greco-Roman and Celtic are fused with the symbols of modern -day , natural spiritual practices, to form a unique and eclectic style. These images are often portrayed through the woman’s perspective, showing the importance of “The Feminine” , which is sometimes over-looked. Lauren wants to convey the beauty in diversity, as well as the similarities, that run through various cultural belief-systems.

Lauren has had artwork and poetry published by greeting card and crafter companies, magazines and historical organizations, including the Middlesex County Cultural & Heritage Commission. One of her pieces was selected for the

permanent collection of the Joyce Kilmer Library. Her work is displayed in private collections, healthcare centers and galleries. She was selected for a solo exhibit at Johnson &Johnson World Headquarters, July-August, 2009. Lauren has participated in over 90 solo, group & juried exhibitions and is also a member of several NJ Arts organizations. Her artwork has been sold throughout the US and abroad, and can be seen in venues in NJ, NY, MA and PA.

New York City's youngest drag queen, Yuhua Hamasaki sings live, acts, lip syncs, and dances. Yuhua has also emceed for numerous contests, dance-offs and the like. This "fierce" queen's performances has been described as flirtatious, witty, funny, loud, wild, and "a rollicking good time". Always expanding her already sizable wardrobe, Yuhua is known for her various looks, ranging from 'real and simple' to over-the-top theatrical campy drag.
Despite her youth, Yuhua has already worked in establishments such as HK Lounge, Boots and Saddles, Lucky Cheng’s, Club Rush, Club Amnesia, Vlada Bar, Evolve Bar, and many more. Yuhua has also promoted and hosted various parties across the city including top venues like Vig 27, Marquee, Star Lounge, and Citrine.

Yuhua is the first runner up in the Gay Socialites Drag Queen of The Year 2009 Awards, and Miss Congeniality of Miss B&S 2010. Yuhua was seen internationally in "The Volta Show" in 2010. Her look was also featured in the Tribeca Citizen Paper, in collaboration with photographer, Chris Zedano. Yuhua has been invited to various schools including Rutgers, NYU, and New Paltz to introduce the art of drag to new audiences. Due to her expertise in drag costume, make-up and performance, The Gay Carribean Pageant invited Yuhua in 2010 to help train amateur drag queens. Yuhua currently resides in NYC and is recording original songs with the internationally-known music producer, Kazuhiko Gomi.

Francesco was born in Catania, Italy, in 1988. He began his dance training at the age of 10 at "Nuova Accademia Arte Danza" under the direction of Fia Distefano. He started his training in jazz and he continued with ballet, contemporary and Hip-hop. He started to perform at the age of 15 at Teatro Metropolitan, Massimo Bellini and Palasport. Francesco appeared in many dance festivals and fashion runways throughout Sicily, he appeared in "INSIEME", a local TV Channel and performed for the singer Massimo Di Cataldo. He attended numerous workshops and mastersclasses throughout Italy and the US with choreographers such as Michelle Assaf, Clarissa Mucci, Wes Veldink, Jason Parsons, Mandy Moore, and Brice Mousset to name a few. During his years of training he received several scholarships from Fia Distefano, Naike Negretti, Michelle Assaf, Brice Mousset and Wes Veldink. I was born in Saigon (Ho Chi Minh City), Vietnam in 1972 to a family of seven and a devoted Buddhist Mother. When I was three years old, South Vietnam was overtaken by the North. At that point, my father decided to leave and live in the countryside where he is to this day. My Mother single-handedly took care of seven children and worked as a seamstress to make ends meet.

In 1987, my Mother had stroke and died. Three months later, I escaped Vietnam and arrived in Thailand. I stayed in a refugee camp for about a year and then settled in Minnesota, United States.

In 1994, I entered Minneapolis College of Art and Design and graduated with a BFA degree in 1997. Two months later, I moved to New York City.

In 1998, I was accepted into New York University for a masters degree in Buddhism and photography. Halfway through the program, I decided to stop attending NYU and began studying on my own, traveling to different Buddhist temples throughout Asia where I continue to photograph and study.

Im 36 years old, I'm peruvian but I live in Barcelona since 2001. Before I discovered the stilt world I studied theater in Lima in three different schools, all related with the composition of the body, corporal expression and physical theater.

I became an actor and started acting in differents plays in Lima from 1996 to 2000.In 1995 I had my first contact with stilts and start trainning with them, but not too much, only the necesary to walk and move. Later, I decided to leave the scene as an actor and began trainning seriously with stilts, and in the year 2000 I started working with the peruvian heater company Yuyachkani as a stilt performer.

In 2001 I moved to Barcelona and continued my trainning, combining dance, acrobacies and a particular way to move on stilts. I started working in streets, dancing a coreography with live
music, and then performing in many events around Europe. Later, In 2008, I had the great opportunity to work with Cirque Du Soleil in two different shows:
"The Awakening of the Snake", show created for the EXPO Zaragoza 2008, and "Il
Sogno Di Volare", show created for the White Night in Italy.At present, Im still
trainning and investigating in this fascinating world that are the stilts.

Nicolás Galán Giral is a New York-based artist, videographer and filmmaker. Born and raised in Mexico City, Nicolas migrated to the United States at the age of 16. While living in Houston, Texas Nicolas worked as an associate producer of the Public Broadcasting Service and made several short films.

In New York, Nicolás has studied film making at NYU, the New School, and SVA.

He has also continued to produce, direct and edit his own short films, usually a "one man production," as he describes it. In may of 2009 he was the video art director for the staging of Melissa James Gibson's "Nuda Veritas" and is currently collaborating on new projects with different local artists.

Roberto’s always had a passion for performing, but it wasn’t until he joined theThomas Jefferson Musical Theatre Company that he decided he wanted to spend his life on the stage. As a company member of TJMTC, he performed with them in “Guys & Dolls”, “Aladino, The Musical”, “Once on this Island”, “Cats” and “Anjou, a Tale of Horror”. Performing with the Company around Mexico and internationally in Calgary between 1994 and 1997, Roberto has since returned to choreograph and for guest appearances with the Company.

After leaving TJMTC, Roberto performed in productions of “Godspell”, “Rent” and“The Frog Prince”. He worked with the Walt Disney Special Events Group in “Fiesta Mickey” in Colombia, “The Power of Imagination” in Brazil and “Magical Moments” on tour around Mexico. His voice was featured in the Dreamworksanimated film “Joseph, King of Dreams” as the voice of Joseph in the Spanish release of the film.

He moved to New York City in 2000 to pursue his performing career further. While in NY he performed in “Copacabana” and “Deep in the Darkness”. Roberto also choreographed the Off-Broadway show “Vincent”, and wrote and lifted the above mentioned new musical “Deep in the Darkness”. MARSIN. Born on a cold winters day in the small town of Nisko, Poland. Ever since I was a little boy living in Poland, I always knew that one day I would live in New York City. I used to draw the Statue of Liberty and huge skyscrapers with myself surrounded in the middle of it all. I did not know
how or when I was going to get there, but I just wanted my dreams and pictures to come true.

I came to America on April 8th, 1994. I started school right away in Lakewood, NJ even though I did not speak any English at all. Doing schoolwork was tough, but making friends really wasn’t.

One of my best friends was a chick named Alicia. We used to skip class and take the bus to New York City together all the time. We would go to Harlem to meet up with friends and hit up a few clubs even though we were under age. I remember one night, Alicia and I were walking on 125th Street, and as we was crossing the street this big guy yelled, "what you doing with a white boy," to my friend Alicia who is African-American, and I yelled back, "what you doin by yourself!" I tried not to be scared of anything or even any one. I believe that things happen for a reason.

Right after my high school graduation I moved to New York City. My parents didn’t really believe me when I told them that I am going to go to college in New York until they actually saw the bill for the semester. While in New York, I did a little acting for fun. I landed some extra work on shows like Law & Order: SVU, as well as an HBO movie "Brooklyn.” I did an off-broadway play called “The Bar Scene” as well as an independent film “Black Pearl.” I stage managed several plays including The Vagina Monologues at CCNY. Which the actors would poke fun at me and made me run lines with them just so I would say “my vagina is angry!” I also had the pleasure to work on music videos with The Dynasty Electric Duo and Beyonce.

I met people who were involved in the modeling industry, and had some luck there. I got the chance to work with amazing talent like Steve Prezant, Ross Bleckner, Irene Caesar, Holly Daggers, Maciek Jasik, Zach Bowens, Markus Klinko & Indrani and Calvin Klein. I was also involved in the Born To Be A Model project. I keep myself busy with various fashion shows, promotional events, and best of all parties and photo shoots. I would say that in this industry you have to be a strong and intelligent person if you want to pursue it.

I live for creativity. Photography and music are my passions. I have taken some beautiful and interesting pictures. I love to shoot anything that catches my eye. My music can be heard online on various websites. I write and produce my own stuff so it may not be for everyone’s liking but I do it because I love doing it. I am excited to further my creativity and see what I come up with next!

In life, I have learned a lot. I used to think that I knew everything, come to find out I did not know much at all. I have learned through my mistakes, and every experience has taught me a new lesson. I have gone through a lot of obstacles to be where I am today, but most importantly, I have always followed my heart.

Nicole Romine danced professionally for over 15 years. Classically trained, she began her career dancing the role of Carlotta Grisi at The Stuttgart Opera House in Germany. She toured the world: South America, Europe, Japan...working with many different companies and performing in many diverse productions. In the US, she is primarily known for her time at Paramount Studios and as the lead female dancer for the television series Fame at MGM.She began her career as a director/choreographer while still dancing and creating many original productions for stage, television and film. She ha won international awards and her work has been seen in 5 continents. A PBS special she choreographed was nominated for an Emmy.

Miriam Aziz - Musician (UK/USA)

Miriam Aziz was born in England and grew up in Brussels, Belgium to a father who was born in Tanzania but whose parents came from what later became Pakistan, and a mother who is Austrian. English is her mother-tongue but she also speaks fluent French, German and Italian. She began playing piano at the age of 5 and started writing songs at 11. By the age of 15 she was writing and performing her own material in a band called Foreign Affairs. In 1989, she moved to Manchester, England where she continued to write and perform songs whilst studying for a law degree which she completed in 1992. She went on to qualify as a lawyer in London and then moved to Edinburgh, Scotland to do a Phd in 1994, all the while playing and experimenting with all styles of music. She began to take her singing more seriously, performing jazz standards and eventually her own songs with a band made up of a jazz guitarist, a tabla player and a bass player. She moved to Berlin in 1997 and spent three years living there before she moved to Florence, Italy in 2000 where she started to work on songs for a debut album, We’re Inside Out which she released on her own label, Rock Pixie Records in 2007 which was produced by Malika Makouf Rasmussen (Exit Cairo and On Club) together with Women’s Voice Productions based in Oslo, Norway.She performed songs from the album in Ithaca, upstate New York in November 2007 as part of the radio show Crossing Borders for WVBR FM at Pancho Villa. She also co-hosted radio shows on world music for WVBR FM and WICB FM during the fall of 2007. She has also performed in Oslo as part of the Global Oslo Music initiative and in July 2008 performed with a 5 set band of musicians and 2 dancers in Prato, Italy as part of the nationwide Womajazz Festival and performed at the renowned MELA world music festival in Oslo in August 2009.Miriam Aziz often collaborates with dancers and her music has been used in dance classes and productions. In 2008, she wrote a piece of music for Tancredo Tavárez, a former Martha Graham dancer who teaches Modern dance at the Béjart school (Ecole-Atelier Rudra Béjart) in Lausanne, Switzerland. The music was used to stage a choreographical piece called “Toutlemonde n’entre pas, sauf les foux” and was performed by Tavárez at a Gala in Santo Domingo in February 2008. Her work with dancers inspired her second album Tránsito which was released on October 26, 2009 on Rock Pixie Records in conjunction with New Music and Women’s Voice Productions, distributed by EMI MUSIC Norway AS. The album was also produced by Malika Makouf Rasmussen and moves away from the singer/songwriter format to embrace theatre and dance and what she has referred to as “acoustic cinema” in an interview with Norwegian Public Radio in December 2008. Stylistically, she has started to introduce strands of theatre with musical and vocal arrangements which have been inspired by classical music, jazz and Indian music and cinema.In 2007, she worked with Scottish film director Richard Jobson, former member of the art-punkband the Skids (16 Years of Alcohol, A Woman in Winter, The Purifiers and New Town Killers) on the release of a video for Gypsy one of songs from her album We’re Inside Out, an experience which inspired her to experiment with film-making. Her work with photographers such as Luciano Valentini in Siena, Italy (Studio Gielle), Tei Blow in Brooklyn and Mariliana Arvelo, New York has been instrumental in enabling her to evolve her search to fuse music, dance and theatre with elements of improvisation. Sandra Powers discovered her passion for cinema while studying painting at
the MassArt in Boston. She received her M.F.A. degree in Film at CalArts, as

Sherry has been immersed in photography since childhood, beginning in her father’s dark room. He was a professional, award winning photographer, as well as a leader in New Jersey theatre as a director, actor, and filmmaker. She essentially grew up in the darkroom, as well as on and off the stage. While participating in CAPA, the Creative and Performing Arts camp created by her Mother, she was introduced to a wide variety of visual arts, dance, theatre, and music on a daily basis for ten summers. She attended Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University as a Dance and Theatre major; followed by work with the Institute for Arts & Humanities holding a variety of positions for a period over 10 years. She has owned her own photography studio since 1990 earning a reputation for her keen eye for black and white portraits both as a fine art photographer and a photo journalist. Sherry enthusiastically states, “ART has been her life.”

Sherry's work has been exhibited in and around NJ. A collection of 25 "Living Legacies" portraits was purchased for permanent exhibition at the Actors' Fund Home in Englewood, NJ and her South America Portraits are in a variety of private collections in New Jersey, Florida, New York and Pennsylvania .

PHOTO JOURNALISM

She looks to an extended trip to Rio de Janeiro, Salinopolis and Belem, Brazil, and Cacao, French Guyana roughly 30 years ago as her beginning interest in photo- journalism, although at the time it did not register as such. She was radically affected and deeply touched by those who had almost nothing, whether living in the Favelas on the hillsides crushing the city landscape, or homes on stilts sitting over water in San Annopolis to the tiny Hmong village cut out of the forest. At that time Sherry created a series from Belem and another series from Cacao. It is these images that continue to influence her work today.

With marriage and family limiting her ability to travel far from her home in New Jersey, her work shifted to photographing artists (musicians, dancers, writers, visual, and theatre artists). She completed a series of 25 portraits of these luminaries entitled, “Living Legacies.” Since then Sherry has continued to develop her “Living Legacies” series, photographing New Jersey's Veterans.

Sherry is called upon to document a variety of events such as behind the scenes of video projects within the NYC music & dance industries. Kalliope Amorphous

BIOGRAPHY

Kalliope Amorphous is an artist working with the conceptual self-portrait photograph. Born in Providence, RI, she spent the bulk of her formative years in New York City, dabbling in everything from spoken word poetry to performance art. Her primary body of work has evolved into an exploration of the self-portrait photograph as a catalyst for exploring ideas of identity, gender, archetype and myth.

Kalliope’s previous incarnations in theater and performance art can be seen in her theatrical approach to lighting and costuming, as well as her character inspired images. Her work ranges from interpretations of pre-existing iconography to compositions meant purely to provoke and challenge perceptions and first impressions.

Self-taught in photography, Kalliope takes an intuitive approach to composition and lighting and works without the aid of professional lighting or studio equipment. Makeup, costuming, photography, and post processing are all self-created.

Kalliope has exhibited throughout the United States and Europe and currently divides her time between Rhode Island and New York.

STATEMENT

I am not a photographer or a narcissist. I am an artist with a camera. I want to push the boundaries of what I define as self and other by playing with ideas of identity, gender, archetype and the myriad ways in which they can be represented. I am inspired and fascinated by all of the subtle variations in mood and character that human beings are capable of. I can more deeply explore these moods and emotions by physically transforming into them for a moment in time.

Self portraiture became a natural extension of my artistic desire to work with photography, coupled with my reclusive personality. This work is entirely self-contained. As photographer, subject, costumer, makeup artist, and post-processor, I have complete control over the resulting imagery, and am also able to work alone at three in the morning if the spirit moves me.

Ironically, I have a hard time identifying with my work as “self” portraiture, because all of these characters and personalities seem to be their own. I just try to give them life for a moment, acting as a screen for them to play on. In the same breath, they also represent loosely fragmented aspects of my own personality, inspirations and affinities.

I work entirely with available and improvisational lighting. All costuming, styling, makeup, photography and post processing are self-created. I shoot digital, yet prefer a more traditional photographic aesthetic over heavily digitized post processing. All effects are created in camera.

I find a powerful link between the written word and the wordless image. The still image is without words, yet is capable of equally as much poetry. There is a paradox there that is quite beautiful, and I love being able to work with it. In a good session, that collaboration will be tangible in the finished work.

In addition to conceptual self portraits, I have also been working on an ongoing series of portraits of artist, musician, and composer Diamanda Galas, whom I believe to be one of the most important artists on the planet right now. These portraits are artistically manipulated, both physically and digitally, and represent an unexpected move toward non-self portrait work and alternative-process imagery.
